At Eden Park Nursery, we implement a Key Worker System designed to foster strong and secure attachments between children and our dedicated staff members. This system helps create a nurturing and supportive environment for your child.

When your child joins Eden Park Nursery, we actively encourage them to form meaningful relationships with our team and select their own Key Worker. This special bond helps your child settle into nursery life with ease, boosting their confidence to engage in daily activities. The Key Worker acts as a bridge between home and nursery, ensuring a seamless continuity of care.

Your child’s Key Worker will focus on meeting their individual care needs, offering you peace of mind while your little one explores, learns, and plays in a safe and supportive environment. Activities and learning experiences will be carefully planned to suit your child’s unique needs and developmental stage.

The Key Worker will keep a report on your child’s activities and progress and will always be available to address any questions or concerns you may have. They will also meet with you during Parents’ Evenings to discuss your child’s development and plan their next steps.

We strive to maintain consistency by keeping the same Key Worker with your child as long as possible. However, as your child grows and transitions to a new room, their Key Worker may change, and we will keep you fully informed throughout the process. If you have a preference for a specific Key Worker, we will do our utmost to accommodate your request.

A Day at Eden Park Nursery

8 AM
Our day begins with staff warmly welcoming the children into the nursery, where we provide a nutritious breakfast. After breakfast, children settle in with a free choice of play, easing into their day.

Morning Activities
Our mornings are filled with engaging and fun activities, allowing children to freely explore and choose what interests them most.

10:00 AM
Children enjoy a healthy snack and drink to recharge for more play and learning. The morning continues with a mix of focus group activities and outdoor physical play in our garden. Circle time and some singing.

12:00 PM
Lunchtime is a special moment where children sit together to enjoy a healthy and delicious meal.

Afternoon Activities
After lunch, children can choose between quiet time for a comfortable afternoon nap or engage in free play.

1:00 PM
The afternoon brings more opportunities for creativity, exploration, and discovery through play. Children who missed out on morning activities can participate in them during this time.

2:00 PM
Another healthy snack and drink is provided to keep the children energized.

4:30 PM
Children gather for a delightful afternoon tea.

5-6 PM - Home Time
Some children head home, while others continue to enjoy indoor or outdoor play, relaxing with books, games, and activities until their parents arrive.

When your child turns 2 years of age they will move to a different room.

Although we understand it can be a big change for your child, it is an exciting time with lots of new opportunities! The team will work closely with you to support you and your child to make the move as smooth as possible.

What we will do to help
A couple of weeks before your child turns 2 years of age we will begin the process of moving to the new rooms.

• Your child will spend short sessions in the new rooms before they move permanently to enable your child to feel comfortable in their new surroundings.
• Your child’s current Key Worker will liaise with their new Room Leader and will pass on all developmental and care information, and complete a transition form.
• We will inform you of the outcome of your child’s trial sessions and ensure you are introduced to your child’s new Key Worker, once they have formed attachments in their new room.
• If your child requires any additional support, or there is a delay in making a permanent move, this will be discussed with you and your child’s current Key Worker.

What can you do to help?
Our main ethos is to work together to help your child reach their full potential.

You can help support us to work together by updating us with observations from home, reading our news bulletins (which explains what fun things we will be learning about!) and meeting termly to discuss your child’s progress.

Your child looks to you for encouragement and direction, try to talk to your child positively about the ground floor and let them know they’re going to have a wonderful time – and they will!

You can ease your child’s nerves by bringing along your child’s favourite comfort item, whether it’s a blanket, a teddy bear, a book or a little note from you.

When your child is ready to toilet train we support you and help you and your child have great success in this area.

In the nursery all the toilets are small and easily accessible. Below are some signs to help you recognise if your child is ready to toilet train.

Signs of readiness for Potty Training

• Urinates a fair amount each time.
• Can pull up and down pants.
• Shows interest in others toilet habits.
• Desires independence.
• Can communicate when wet or soiled.
• Tries to remove own nappy when soiled.
• Might be dry at night.

Preparing for Potty Training

• Choosing a suitable potty which your child likes.
• Read stories surrounding using the potty to sit on.
• Choose some underwear.
• Make a decision when to start.
• Create a reward chart with your child to reward them for their efforts.
• Get a fabric bag to carry around when you first begin potty training containing:
• 3x knickers, socks and bottoms.
• Baby wipes
• Nappy sacks

Ready to start Toilet Training

• Make sure your child wears easily removable clothes.
• Remove the nappy in the morning and make a point of going straight to the potty and try to go.
• Ask your child at regular intervals to use their potty.

Toilet Accidents

• Try not to get upset if your child has an accident.
• Ask them to sit on the potty to ensure they have finished.
• Reaffirm “It’s ok! But we use the potty now!”.
• Ask them to help you change their clothes and get re- dressed.

At Eden Park Nursery, we are committed to supporting and preparing children for the exciting transition to school. By working closely with parents and local schools, we aim to make this change as smooth as possible.

We focus on nurturing children’s personal, social, and emotional development by encouraging friendships and helping them communicate their needs effectively. These early experiences are vital for building confidence and self-esteem, laying a strong foundation for starting school.

During the Upper Pre-School year, we place an emphasis on early education. We help children recognize and write their names and introduce a fun and engaging phonics program during circle time. Additionally, our planned activities are designed to promote school readiness in an enjoyable way.

At Eden Park, we encourage independence by helping children develop practical skills. They hang their coats on their pegs, self-register upon arrival, complete independent tasks like "funky finger" activities, prepare their own snacks, tidy up, and even set the table for lunch. These small steps foster confidence and independence, easing their transition to school life.

As the school start date approaches, we liaise with local schools and invite teachers to visit the nursery to meet the children. We also prepare a detailed transition report highlighting your child’s accomplishments to share with their new school.

Collaboration with parents is a key part of our approach. We host a "Transitioning to School" workshop where parents can voice concerns and receive valuable tips and ideas to support their child’s journey.

Before our children leave Eden Park Nursery, we'll celebrate their time with us by hosting a memorable graduation ceremony. Parents, Key Workers, and children come together to mark this special milestone as they prepare for their exciting new adventure at school.

The Nursery is open Monday to Friday from 8am-6pm year-round, with the exception of training/inset days and Christmas/New Year - when we are closed.
